Libraries Still Flooded After Irene and in Need of Help

Damaged Cellar

A positively heartwreching report of the aftermath of Hurricane Irene comes to us from Library Journal with Some Libraries Still Flooded After Irene and in Need of Help.

Pictured above, the basement of the Schoharie Free Library in Schoharie, NY which has closed until further notice.  Also damaged are the Middleburgh Library in Middleburgh, and Wells Memorial Library in Upper Jay New York. The First Ward branch of Paterson Public Library in New Jersey was apparently hit by a wave surge, causing flooding damage and will remain closed indefinitely. The rest of the Paterson libraries will be closed through September 6, 2011.

Vermont’s West Hartford Public Library, was particularly hard hit and lost about 60 percent of its collection. News of the West Hartford library flood is available here.
