Survey–ALA Chicago 2005 Attendance Poll

With the American Library Association’s 2005 conference approaching at the end of June, I am curious as to how many plan to attend the event.

Also of interest, is funding for the conference. How many are attending the conference out of their own pockets?
Please visit CLNN to take part in the survey.

I’d guess that people who are attending the conference are more likely to respond to this survey. That doesn’t make the survey invalid, but it’s something to keep in mind.

I’m fully aware that most will be attendees. Frankly just about all of my surveys I take with a grain of salt. The fact that people even take part in them is a mystery to me approaching that of the Nazca Lines.

Just wanted to post that my emplyer pays for my early-bird registration. Though I paid in March, after the conference, i.e., July or August, I will be reimbursed $130. Hotel+airfare+food=$1,000 or so…does give me pause.

At least a lot of people are going. I don’t get much of anything, and I sure as heck can’t pay my own way. At least not this early in my career (new librarian, you have to save up. I am sure the folks in my boat understand). I did notice the % of people attending with pay is almost as much as those not being able to afford it. Now that makes me wonder.

I couldn’t go partly because I’m scheduled for Saturday (today) and it can be hard to find a member of the professional staff to step in. Plus I can’t afford to go, nor can my library pay my way. It’s a bummer. So far I’ve only been to my local county conference (twice), but I really enjoyed it and found it useful.

I paid for my own student attendance to ALA and my new employer does not even pay for my days off for ALA because I have not been here for a year! I am pleased to report that I wore my Curmudgeony shirt “don’t make me shush your ass” to the exhibits and people loved it! I did not meet Chris amongst the others blogger I ran into, but I sure plugged you blog and your store!
