Kevin Henkes was announced the 2005 winner of the Randolph Caldecott Medal for top children’s book, by the American Library Association. Henkes won the award for his 35th book, “Kitten’s First Full Moon,” which he wrote and illustrated.
First awarded in 1938, the Caldecott Medal is consider the top honor for children’s literature. The medal is named for Randolph Caldecott, a 19th-century English illustrator. Past winners include noted authors William Steig, Ezra Jack Keats, and Virginia Lee Burton.
